Northwoods Volunteer Connection seeks volunteers for a portage repair project

The Northwoods Volunteer Connection is seeking volunteers to help with a portage repair project in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness! Space is still available, but is limited to six volunteers for this project.
Food and most of the equipment volunteers need will be provided. Don’t miss this opportunity to help maintain a valuable regional recreational resource and gain a new experience this summer!

Northwoods Volunteer Connection coordinator Laurel Wilson explains that this is Wilderness Project #1 – Lizz to Caribou Portage Rehabilitation. It will take place on Wednesday, July 13 – Sunday, July 17

Laurel said volunteers will help restore a popular Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness portage. Volunteers will install log and rock water bars and check dams by reshaping soil, planting rocks and logs. These activities will reduce erosion and create a more sustainable tred.

Volunteers will travel by canoe to Caribou Lake to camp and will commute by canoe to the work site

Meeting Location and Time: Gunflint Ranger Station, July 13,  8:00 a.m.

The cost is $50/adult, $25/student.

RSVP: Contact Laurel at 218-663-8608 or to register.
